Under the slogan "Good neighbours creating common future" the Opening Conference of the Hungary-Serbia IPA Cross-border Co-operation Programme took place on 21 of October 2009 in Szeged, Hungary.

Dr. István Ujhelyi, State Secretary, Prime Minister’s Office , Republic of Hungary, opened the Conference and greeted almost 200 guests gathered, comprising representatives of the European Commission, national authorities, high-ranking officials, media representatives, stakeholders  and interested potential applicants from a wide range of organisations.

The guests were welcomed by Ms. Brigitta Zicherman-Mikulás, Head of the Managing Authority; Mr. János Benedek, PhD, CEO, VÁTI Hungarian Nonprofit Limited Liability Company for Regional Development and Town Planning; Ms.Gordana Lazarević, Assistant Minister, Ministry of Finance, Republic of  Serbi and Ms. Genevieve Leveaux,  DG Regional Policy, European Commission.

The Conference was organized to promote Cross-border Co-operation between Hungary and Serbia and also to spread information to potential applicants about the First Call for Proposals of the Programme, launched on the 29th of September 2009. Within the framework of the present Call for Proposals EUR 16.607.511 Community funding (IPA) will be available.

On the Hungarian side the eligible area covers the counties of Csongrád and Bács-Kiskun. On the Sebian side the eligible area covers the following NUTS III equivalent regions– West Bačka, North Bačka, North Banat, South Bačka and Middle Banat. Furthermore, South Banat and Srem participate in the present Programme as adjacent regions and up to the amount of 20% of the Community funding available in the Programme.

The eligible applicants are non-profit organizations, among others county and local governments, associations of local governments, foundations, associations, public non-profit companies, educational institutions, chambers. In each project at least one organisation from Hungary and at least one organisation from Serbia have to be jointly represented from the eligible cross-border area.
The Call for proposals lasts for 90 days and the submission deadline for project proposals is 31st of December 2009.
